Visit to Belimo Germany
As part of the celebration of Belimo's 50th anniversary, we visited the grand opening of the new Belimo Experience Center at the service and logistics hub in Großröhrsdorf, near Dresden. The highlight was the AHU Lab (Air Handling Unit Laboratory), where various operating states of an HVAC system can be demonstrated.
AHU Lab
In the AHU Lab, we gained hands-on insights into the functioning of HVAC units, including their individual components, along with a comprehensive overview of all application-specific field devices from Belimo.
The main focus of the AHU Lab is an HVAC unit that allows the demonstration and testing of the following functions:
- Heating, cooling, humidifying, and dehumidifying to precisely influence all key parameters for healthy indoor air quality.
- Modular replacement of heat recovery units (HRU), such as plate heat exchangers, run-around coils, or rotary wheels.
- Simulation of specific system conditions, e.g., HRU icing or filter contamination.
The Cube
In the test room called the "Comfort Zone", Belimo demonstrates the following features:
- Ventilation systems with variable air volume (VAV) to ensure the right amount of fresh air is supplied and contaminated air is efficiently extracted from the room.
- Precise measurement of temperature, relative humidity, CO₂, and VOC using Belimo’s field device technology – both active and passive sensors, as well as room control devices – to ensure maximum indoor comfort.
- Belimo energy valves that provide continuous dynamic hydraulic balancing and therefore energy-efficient, demand-based energy distribution.
